32 OUT OF 35 CAL SOUTH TEAMS REACH THE QUARTERFINALS AT 2009 FAR WEST REGIONALS

QUARTERFINAL MATCHES GET UNDERWAY ON FRIDAY, JUNE 19TH
LIVE SCORING UPDATES ON REGIONIV.COM

June 18, 2009 (Lancaster, CA) - After three very competitive days of preliminary matches, 32 out of the 35 teams Cal South entered in the US Youth Soccer Far West Regional Championships have moved successfully into the event's quarterfinals round on Friday, June 19th. In all, Cal South's team count is split evenly between boys' and girls' teams with 16 apiece, and Cal South has at least one team in each of the 16 age and gender brackets in the event, which is comprised of teams from U12 to U19. Preliminary action began on Monday, June 15 and carried on through Wednesday, with the top eight teams in each bracket after the three preliminary matches moving into the quarterfinals round. The US Youth Soccer Far West Regional Championships take place from June 15-21 at the Lancaster National Soccer Center in Lancaster, CA.

In several quarterfinals matches, Cal South teams will face off against each other. The BU14 bracket sees National Cup champ West Coast FC meeting Arsenal FC, and Arsenal's BU15 squad will meet up against another National Cup champ in the Aztecs FC in the quarters. The BU16 brackets sees both of Cal South's Far West Regional League entries meeting each other: Real So Cal White versus, yet again, Arsenal FC. On the girls' side, the GU15 bracket has another Far West Regional League matchup as Slammers FC meets So Cal Blues. Overall, Cal South still has at least three teams vying for a title in six different brackets: BU14, BU16, BU17, GU14, GU16 and GU18.

In order to provide what is considered the ultimate in "member benefits" to its leagues and clubs, Cal South continued its tradition of donating funds to its teams going to the US Youth Soccer Far West Regional Championships to ease the burden of traveling expenses. This year, Cal South provided $87,500 to its 35 teams - $2500 per team - taking part in the 2009 Far West Regionals, being hosted this year in Lancaster, CA from June 15-21, 2009. Another $70,000 - $5,000 per team - was donated to Cal South's ten U13-U17 State Cup champions and four wild card teams taking part in the inaugural Region IV US Youth Soccer Presidents Cup, which took place last weekend in Tri-Cities, WA from June 11-14, 2009, where Cal South teams captured 8 out of 10 titles.

CAL SOUTH CAPTURES 8 OF 10 US YOUTH SOCCER REGION IV PRESIDENTS CUP TITLES

Championship teams now head to 2009 Presidents Cup National Championships in Raleigh, NC in July

Tri-Cities, WA (June 15, 2009) - Teams from Cal South captured eight of the ten championships this weekend at the inaugural US Youth Soccer Region IV Presidents Cup, which concluded this weekend in the Tri-Cities area (Kennewick, Pasco and Richland) of the state of Washington. Fourteen Cal South teams -- ten State Cup champions and four wild card teams -- traveled to Washington last week to take part in the regional tournament, for which Cal South provided subsidies of $5000 per team to help with travel expenses. The championship teams will now head to Raleigh, North Carolina in July for the 2009 US Youth Soccer Presidents Cup National Championships.

Proving just how dominant Cal South was at the event, twelve of the fourteen Cal South teams reached the finals matches in their respective age groups, with the BU13, GU13 and GU15 finals featuring face-offs between opposing Cal South clubs. The GU17 bracket, which featured the other two Cal South teams, was the only one not decided with a championship final. The bracket was won by CFC United, who won all four of their matches en route to their title.

FINAL TWO NATIONAL CUP CHAMPIONS DECIDED OVER WEEKEND

Eagles Girls & VC Fusion DMS 11 Boys Grab U19 Titles
Championship Teams Prepare for U.S. Youth Soccer Far West Regionals in Lancaster, CA - June 15-21

June 9, 2009 (Chino, CA) - Cal South's final two participants in the upcoming U.S. Youth Soccer Far West Regionals were decided this weekend as the U19 girls of the Eagles Soccer Club and the U19 VC Fusion DMS 11 boys captured Cal South National Cup titles on the fields of the Ayala Park Community Soccer Complex in Chino. Both championship teams automatically advance to the 2009 Far West Regionals from June 15-21 in Lancaster, CA, the next stop on the way to the crown jewel of youth soccer, the 2009 U.S. Youth Soccer National Championships in Lancaster, Massachusetts from July 20-26.

After their U16 and U18 teams ended their National Cup runs as finalists, the Eagles SC had one more chance at a title this year on Saturday, June 6 against the Wolfpack SC. Far more importantly, this Eagles team was not only looking for their third straight National Cup title and fourth in six years, but also for the chance to reach the National Championships, where they previously won a pair of titles, as U14s in 2004 and as U17s in 2007. The Eagles made good on their chance, defeating the Wolfpack in a tight game, 2-1, to advance to the Regionals and possibly continue their string.

On Sunday, June 7, VC Fusion's DMS 11 boys, following a trio of 4-0 shutout victories on their way to the Finals, again equaled that number of goals in the championship, though they gave up their first goal in National Cup play against the Celtic FC, with a 4-1 result.

Cal South now has 35 teams -- 16 National Cup champions and 19 Wild Card entries -- taking part in the Far West Regionals, hosted this year by Cal South. SCMAF and Cal South Soccer Enter Into Exclusive 10-Year Partnership Agreement
Agreement Geared towards Professionalizing and Growing Adult Soccer Programs through Municipalities across Southern California

Fullerton , CA - June 4, 2009 - The Southern California Municipal Athletic Federation (SCMAF) and the California State Soccer Association - South (Cal South) announced today that they have entered into a 10-year exclusive agreement aimed at growing, incorporating and improving adult soccer programs throughout Southern California.

"The mission for SCMAF, as a membership based organization, is to create healthier communities through sports and physical activities, so connecting our member agencies with Cal South and the structuring of adult soccer programs as part of this agreement is a perfect fit," states Tim Ittner, Executive Director for SCMAF. "City agencies see great potential for adult soccer programs, but they also want to better understand the benefits and best options for their agency moving forward. We are confident that this partnership will help them every step of the way."

Cal South President Gregg Falk welcomed the news as well. "Cal South is extremely excited about working with SCMAF and the over five hundred cities and agencies they serve. This agreement is a cooperative win-win for SCMAF, Cal South and every municipal recreational agency in Southern California that is looking to provide quality soccer programs to their residents."

The agreement looks to strengthen cooperation between agencies and existing adult soccer programs and will additionally focus on increasing the options for adult soccer players by working with municipal agencies directly in the formation and incorporation of more recreational-based adult coed leagues, women's leagues, beach soccer and other small-sided formats.

The adult league application period opened on May 1, 2009 and will close on August 1, 2009. Questions and requests for additional information on adult league sanctioning should be directed to Luis Salcedo at 714.451.1507 or lsalcedo@calsouth.com.

June 3, 2009 (Fullerton, CA) - In order to provide what is considered the ultimate in "member benefits" to its leagues and clubs, Cal South has maintained a tradition of donating funds to its teams going to the US Youth Soccer Far West Regional Championships. This year being no different, Cal South has provided $87,500 to its 35 teams - $2500 per team - taking part in the 2009 Far West Regionals, being hosted this year in Lancaster, CA from June 15-21, 2009. On behalf of the entire Cal South board of directors, I wish for all our players to do well and enjoy their experiences at both tournaments."
