STATE TOURNAMENT COMMITTEE RELEASES PLAY LEVEL GUIDE FOR STATE CUP & NATIONAL CUP

Early Entry Discount Deadline for State Cup Presidents Division and National Cup Ends on September 30th!

FULLERTON, CA (September 5, 2009) - Opening up opportunities for more teams than ever, the Cal South State Tournament Committee recently announced new divisions for the 2010 Cal South State Cup. Play in the State Cup will now be broken up into a Governors Division and a Presidents Division.Here's how registration for these divisions breaks up:

GOVERNORS DIVISION
Open to all teams playing in a Cal South Sanctioned League in the Bronze division or equal or lower in the U9 through U17 age groups


PRESIDENTS DIVISION
1. In the Under 9, 10, 11, 18 and 19 age groups, the Presidents Division is open to all teams playing in a Cal South Sanctioned League in all play levels.
2. In the Under 12 through Under 17 ages, the Presidents Division is open to all teams playing in a Cal South Sanctioned League in Silver Elite or equal, or lower.

The Champions in the U13 through U17 age groups of the Presidents Division will represent Cal South in the 2010 US Youth Soccer Region IV Presidents Cup Regionals. Cal South teams U14 through U17 who win the Region IV Presidents Cup will represent Cal South and Region IV in the 2010 US Youth Soccer Presidents Cup National Finals.

Gold and Premier teams or equal in the U12 through U17 age groups must play in the Cal South National Cup.

Registration for the 2010 State Cup and National Cup is now open. The entry fee for the Governors Division is $495 through the entry deadline. The entry fee for the Presidents Division is $495 through the Early Entry Deadline of September 30, 2009; $595 after Sept. 30. The entry fee for National Cup is $600 through Sept. 30; $725 after Sept. 30.


In response to numerous inquiries as to team eligibility due to team level status (Gold, Silver etc.) for Cal South National Cup and the two new divisions of State Cup, the Cal South State Tournaments Committee has put together a handy guide that refers to the playing levels of several prominent gaming circuits. The chart below should help clear matters up, and to further break down the process, three simple rules regarding Cup play levels have been provided:

1.All Teams may always "Play Up".
Bronze / AA-B / AA-C / Red and Green teams can enter National Cup or Presidents Cup if they desire the increased competition.
Silver Elite / AAA / Silver / AA-A and Blue teams can enter National Cup if they desire the increased competition.

2. Teams may not "Play Down".
Only Bronze Teams can play Governors Cup.
Silver Elite / AAA / Silver / AA-A / Blue and U11 Gold teams must play at least Presidents Cup and cannot play Governors Cup.
Premier or Gold (except U11 Gold) teams must play National Cup and cannot play Presidents Cup or Governors Cup.

3. LA Futbol Circuit, Central Coast Soccer League, Bakersfield Soccer League, Signature Leagues and other leagues.
Teams may select the level of competition at which they are competitive.
The State Cup Committee will review and may adjust the play levels teams select in November based on actual league results.

FULLERTON, CA (Wednesday, September 2, 2009) - Cal South State Referee Administrator George Noujaim announced today his selections for the new Cal South State Referee Committee, who will combine to administer and nurture the various levels of the Cal South Referee Program, as well as serving the entire Southern California referee membership.

Those newly named to State Referee Committee (SRC) positions are State Director of Assessment Arturo Angeles, State Director of Instruction Nasser Sarfaraz, State Director of Assignors Dan Goldmann, State Referee Committee Secretary Dan Sobieski, and Toros Kibritjian as the Director of Cal South's State Youth Mentor Program. The now completed State Referee Committee also includes current sitting State Youth Referee Administrator Larry Yee.

"It was important for us to assemble a team which would not only allow us to expand the reach of our programs, but to also maintain the highest level of service to our members," said Noujaim. "Judging from their extensive credentials and combined experience across the soccer spectrum, the new Cal South State Referee Committee will prove itself to be the benchmark for excellence in referee development."

"Speaking for the Cal South Board of Directors, we are very pleased with George's selections for the State Referee Committee," said Cal South President Gregg Falk. "The choice of Arturo, Nasser and the rest point to the great leap forward Cal South is seeking to make in developing its referee program into the future. We wish them the greatest success in their efforts."

New State Director of Assessment Arturo Angeles comes to the Cal South State Referee Committee with a wealth of officiating experience at nearly every level of the soccer world. This includes refereeing for the MLS (1995-1998), the 1994 World Cup, the 1992 Barcelona Olympics, the U.S. Cup and the U.S. Armed Forces World Cup through the 1990s, the U19 World Cup and the Maccabean Games in Israel in 1989, the NASL (North American Soccer League, 1980-1984), and at numerous US Youth Soccer tournaments (1975-1998).

New State Director of Instruction Nasser Sarfaraz has served as a National-level assessor, instructor and referee inspector for US Soccer, with whom he also holds an "A" level coaching license. Dan Goldmann, the new State Director of Assignors, has been a soccer referee assignor for the past 25 years. He was a USSF National Soccer Referee for nine years, and actively refereed in the ASL, the NASL, and the MISL (Major Indoor soccer League).

Toros Kibritjian, the new Director of the State Youth Mentor Program, served on the FIFA Referee Panel from 1968 through 1983, and officiated in 49 full international and CONCACAF championship games throughout his career. He has also served as a USSF National Assessor and lecturer, a state referee instructor, and as an NISOA National Assessor. New SRC Secretary Dan Sobieski is a USSF State Emeritus Referee who has also served on the national level with NISOA and AYSO, as well as a high school referee.
