June 3, 2009 (Fullerton, CA) - In order to provide what is considered the ultimate in "member benefits" to its leagues and clubs, Cal South has maintained a tradition of donating funds to its teams going to the US Youth Soccer Far West Regional Championships. This year being no different, Cal South has provided $87,500 to its 35 teams - $2500 per team - taking part in the 2009 Far West Regionals, being hosted this year in Lancaster, CA from June 15-21, 2009. Another $70,000 - $5,000 per team - has been donated by Cal South to their ten U13-U17 State Cup champions and four wild card teams taking part in the inaugural Region IV US Youth Soccer Presidents Cup, which takes place in Tri-Cities, WA from June 11-14, 2009.

These donations are made annually in order to ease the burden of traveling expenses for these teams as they battle for a spot in their respective championships. The U14-U19 Far West Regional winners will head to the 2009 US Youth Soccer National Championships in Lancaster, MA in July, and the Region IV Presidents Cup winners on their way to the 2009 US Youth Soccer Presidents Cup National Championships in Raleigh, NC, also in July. In addition to the individual subsidies to these teams, Cal South also paid close to another $25,000 in team entry fees for their participation in both of these tournaments.

"I am doubly excited that Cal South can help out our players in reaching both of these Regional tournaments," said Cal South President Gregory Falk. "These donations are made possible, in part, via our incredible State Cup and National Cup competitions. Cal South has always strived to be the best youth sports organization in the world. On behalf of the entire Cal South board of directors, I wish for all our players to do well and enjoy their experiences at both tournaments."

Sixteen of Cal South's Far West Regional participants are the winning teams in each age and gender division at the 2009 Cal South National Cup, the traditional means of reaching the Far West Regionals. Nineteen other wild card teams have been selected this year, some as winners in the 2009 spring season of the Far West Regional League, some earned theirs spots as champions in the Far West Regional fall 2008 season, while the remainder were chosen through the Region IV draw process.

Live scoring updates will appear on the Region IV website for both of these events. For a full list of schedules and scores for every team at the Regionals, please click here to go directly to the Region IV website.
